Stroll to the ruined house and lake

You can reach the lake on foot from the Saint-Cassien gîte, and take a very pleasant walk: turn left out of the gîte, continue for 200m on the tarmac track, then at the crossroads take the path (the middle one) in front of you and glide down to a ruined house offering a beautiful view of the lake. Keep going until you find the red and white Rando signs, then head down to the lake. Alternatively, at this "fork in the road" you can climb back up to the gîte. These two short, very soothing walks take 20 to 30 minutes, but it's best to be well-shod as there are some stones. The more courageous can then take the GR49 around Lac de Saint-Cassien.

The rowing base

If, at the end of the chemin des esclapières, you turn left, you'll come across the brand-new rowing center, where you can try your hand at rowing on Lac de Saint-Cassien, getting to know even the most inaccessible spots on foot.

Mandarin bamboos

Less than 5 kms from the Gîte de Saint-Cassien, an unexpected walk in an oasis of "Asian freshness". A bamboo forest, a Japanese garden and many other zen and rejuvenating discoveries await you in this exceptional place. Unfortunately, you'll have to aim high to program this visit, as the bamboo grove is only open on weekends from Easter to October. But this visit will do you a world of good...

Dior's castle

At the end of the chemin des esclapières on your left are large fields of rose centifolia (rose de mai), the entire production of which is sent to Grasse for the manufacture of Dior perfumes, the latest of which is called "colle noire". Opposite is the château de la colle noire, which was the second home of the famous couturier Christian Dior. Now owned by the LVMH group and magnificently renovated in respect of the designer's memory, it can only be visited two days a year. I had this opportunity, so I'll let you discover a few photos of this superb residence and this beautiful exhibition...
